Using the API for the W3C HTML Validator (WebProNews)
The W3C has introduced an API for their HTML Validator. It is not a SOAP web service, but it does return XML that can be parsed, so now you have the ability to incorporate validation to any web application, Windows program or wherever you want. It works just as the normal validator, by specifying a URL, but you have to add the “output=soap12″ parameter to the URL like so:

Best computer book ever: HTML and XHTML guide
What’s the best computer book ever? My nomination is HTML: The Definitive Guide — now updated to HTML & xhtml: The Definitive Guide because x is the new e. I talked to Chuck Musciano and Bill Kennedy yesterday (you can hear it here). I forget to tell them that I’ve frequently recommended the book to new web authors by telling them that they can read it at the beach and learn a lot. It’s one of the very few books that really explains why you would want to do something in a certain way. ; ; Sure you can sit at a computer and try out the code, and you can certainly use it as a reference to learn why something didn’t work, but I’ve always found this book an actual pleasure to read for the perspective they bring to the topic.
